Botanical Society of South Africa - Kirstenbosch Branch
Know, grow and protect South Africa's indigenous flora

Full Circle: Lady Tait returns to Kirstenbosch

The Kirstenbosch Branch of the Botanical Society is delighted to host an exhibition of vibrant watercolours of South African wildflowers by Lady Cynthia Tait, from 16 January to 15 March 2020 in the Richard Crowie Hall at Kirstenbosch.

Lady Tait (1894-1962), a proficient botanical illustrator, lived at Luncarty near Kirstenbosch where many of these exquisite pieces were painted. Lady Tait's paintings were inherited by her granddaughter who granted permission for them to be exhibited at Kirstenbosch.

It is fitting that the pieces are displayed at the source of the inspiration; in the heart of South Africa's famous floral kindgom.

Curated by Mary van Blommestein of the UCT Irma Stern Museum, the exhibition will also include botanical art by the Western Cape branch of the Botanical Artists Association of Southern Africa (BAASA).

The exhibition has been made possible thanks to the generous sponsorship of Duncan Spence of Gateway Publishing and Rickety Bridge Winery in Franschhoek.
